Beware Of Sparking TikTok Trend: Concord Fire Chief
The viral videos show teens sliding a penny between an electrical outlet and exposed metal prongs causing sparks and in some cases, fires.

CONCORD, MA — On the heels of several other fire departments in the state, Concord's Fire Chief Thomas Judge is warning parents about a viral video challenge that has teens attempting a dangerous trick and is being blamed for two fire incidents in Massachusetts.
The challenge trending on TikTok involves partially inserting the plug of a phone charger into an electrical outlet and sliding a penny down the wall onto the exposed metal prongs.
"There have not been any reports of this type of incident taking place in Concord, but the Fire Department would like parents to be aware of the new challenge," Judge said.

State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey warned about an incident in Holden that left the outlet scorched and an incident at Westford High School, which the Department of Fire Services investigated and plan on charging the students responsible.
The challenge causes sparks to shoot from the outlet and can cause electrical system damage and, in some cases, a fire.
