Beyond the Notes Returns to 51 Walden for Sixth Year
Beyond the Notes brings Grammy award-winning artists to Concord!

Violinist and Concord native Sarah Whitney is passionate about changing the concert experience. She will present the 6th anniversary of her interactive concert series, Beyond the Notes, and perform with guest artists PUBLIQuartet at 7:30 p.m. April 5th at 51 Walden Performing Arts Center, 51 Walden St., Concord.
Beyond the Notes is a unique and interactive concert series that gives the audience a chance to get to know the performers beyond what can be read in their bios. In addition to presenting some of today’s most sought after musicians, Beyond the Notes invites audience members to participate in the concert by submitting written questions. Questions are selected randomly and answered live on stage by the performers throughout the concert. Additionally, for the fifth annual concert, Whitney is bringing more artistic elements to the concert stage than ever before. On stage seating is available for the first time, and Whitney is thrilled to announce a partnership with Powers Gallery of Acton to showcase artwork on stage, while enhancing the listening experience.
Praised by the Washington Post for her “marvelous violin acrobatics”, violinist Sarah Whitney is known for her musical versatility and has been heard worldwide across stages in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and the United States. She is recognized as a performer, teacher, entrepreneur and advocate for bringing fresh new ideas to classical music. Based in New York City, she is a member of the acclaimed string quintet SYBARITE5, one of the fastest-rising chamber-music ensembles in the United States.

“Beyond the Notes is not your average concert,” said Whitney. “My goal is to create a unique performance experience, allowing the audience to form a deeper connection with the music and musicians performing. The audience plays an integral role in Beyond the Notes and ultimately experiences the concert in a new and invigorating way.” This year she will be joined by internationally renowned artists, PUBLIQuartet.
Applauded by The Washington Post as “a perfect encapsulation of today’s trends in chamber music,” and by The New Yorker as “independent-minded,” PUBLIQuartet’s creative programming lends a fresh perspective to the Classical music scene. Dedicated to presenting new works for string quartet, PUBLIQuartet was selected as Concert Artists Guild’s New Music/New Places Ensemble at the 2013 CAG Competition, and then garnered Chamber Music America’s 2015 ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award for outstanding and innovative approaches to contemporary classical, jazz, and world chamber music. PQ’s genre-bending programs span the classical canon and also feature open-form improvisations that expand the techniques and aesthetic of the traditional string quartet.
