On Sept. 6, 1847, Henry Thoreau left Walden Pond after living there for 2 years, 2 months, and 2 days. Join us on Sept. 6 for the 178th anniversary of Thoreau's departure--as Henry (portrayed by Historian Richard Smith) prepares to leave the Pond and move to Concord. We will also bid another farewell: after 26 years of portraying Henry, Richard Smith will be hanging up his straw hat. After visiting Mr. Thoreau at his house replica, join us from 1-1:30 for a public reception at the Visitor Center to celebrate Richard's 26 years as Thoreau.
