SUMMER CERAMICS: <a href="https://theumbrellaarts.org/class/summer-adults-wheel-fundamentals-0" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Wheel Fundamentals</a> Mondays, July 6 - August 10, 6 - 9 PM (6 weeks) Age range: Adult Cost: $405 Instructor: Kyle Johns





This course is designed for those who would like to gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals of wheel throwing as well as for those with experience who want to build new skills and strengthen their throwing technique. This class will cover many technical and aesthetic concerns of working with clay. Demonstrations and projects will be made accessible for new students and scalable for those with more experience. Beginners will be introduced to clay by learning the fundamentals of working on a potter’s wheel and the basics of hand-building techniques. For students with experience in the basics of wheel throwing, more specific projects and challenges will be offered as will the option to develop projects independently. This class is suitable for all skill levels.

About the instructor: Widely exhibited and published artist and teacher, Kyle Johns was a Ceramics Artist-in-Residence at The Umbrella Arts Center and currently is the Ceramics Studio Technician. With an MFA from Ohio University, Kyle has been a resident at Red Lodge Clay Center, The Interdisciplinary Ceramics Research Center, The Archie Bray Foundation, and The International Ceramics Center in Kecskemet, Hungary. He has taught at Kansas State University, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and the Ceramics Program at Harvard University.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Life Care of Acton, an ice cream truck will be in our parking lot from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 7th, offering a variety of delicious ice cream novelties for Concord seniors to enjoy. Come appreciate the wonders Umbrella student artists create! Admission is free and the galleries are open to all, as is the opening reception (<a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdRNEoF-wuExZ5yN_o5ikEkF518sHLkB36GgzI7mHSPpLQIwQ/viewform?usp=header" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">RSVP</a>).





Downstairs, the Allie Kussin Gallery will feature 2D works, including painting and drawing. The glass cases at the front of the building will feature a selection of 3D works from our ceramics and glass working classes.

Upstairs, youth and teen work will be exhibited in the Wedge gallery.&nbsp;

Susan Swinand, an artist with over 25 years of teaching experience (The Worcester Art Museum, Clark University, Wellesley College Greenhouses), will jury the exhibition and select one Grand Prize winner and a group of Honorable Mentions to receive scholarship funds to be applied to their next arts course at The Umbrella.

Setting the&nbsp;poetry&nbsp;of Emily Dickinson, Rabindranath Tagore, Charles Baudelaire, Langston Hughes, and Li&nbsp;Qinghzhao&nbsp;to music, Goodwin has reached across the globe and through time to create a work that highlights&nbsp;the essential humanity that&nbsp;ties&nbsp;us all together. Fruitlands Museum

Join the Concord Band, directed by James O’Dell, on the concert lawn this summer as the Band returns to the Fruitlands Outdoor Stage for its 41st season of live music. Concerts start at 7:15pm. The theme of the July 9 concert is “Born in the USA” and will feature spirited works by Leroy Anderson, Leonard Bernstein, Duke Ellington, John Williams and others. Bring your favorite fare, enjoy stunning sunset views, and settle in for an evening of timeless tunes performed by a 65-member ensemble representing 40 area towns. Bring a blanket and lawn chairs - there’s plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the evening. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. Limited seating is available on the patio. Both the patio and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. $10/non-members, $5/members, children under 6 free.
