Juror’s Prizes were awarded to the students with the following remarks as to why the work was chosen by the art committee. The 2-D PRIZE went to Alessandro Lopresti. Alessandro’s vibrant expressionist style like many artists before him, has chosen the self-portrait to work out his visual questions about tones, foreshortening and composition. His brush stroke exudes confidence and his ability to convey feeling, through honest facial expression is well executed. 2-D Honorable Mention for Painting went to Katelyn Guarnaccia, This painting of a lone chair caught all the jurors’ eyes. The use of space, color and the freshness of the paint application made it a real standout because it captures the wonderful simplicity of a common chair in the corner of a room and depicting that chair with minimal planes and wise restraint. The Ceramics Prize went to Alice Barrett. The jurors liked the chances this sensitive hand took with forms, glazing and cut-outs. The variety of shapes and colors and patterns is appealing. The red glaze is especially dynamic, but not overbearing within the Morandi-like beautiful neutrals. The Photography Prize went to Isaac Ferguson. Isaac’s photographs have a sublime appeal. The jurors like that he limited variables in order to explore a subject. The subject is "light at night" that creates moodiness and abstraction within the work. One of the all time issues in art is how to portray light and we love that he has chosen light as his subject matter.
