Concord Warns Of New Utility Scam Calls
A new scam targets utility customers in Concord.
CONCORD, MA — Concord is warning residents about a new scam that targets utility customers and has been reported in towns across the state. Electric customers are getting calls from scammers posing as utility employees. The scammers say there is an issue with the electric account and then give an incident number.
Ina notice to residents, Concord stressed that Concord Municipal Light Plant would never require customers to purchase a debit card, gift card, etc. The scammer tries to direct residents to the 'Green Dot’ website. Instead, Concord advises residents not to call the 1-800 phone number, or provide any personal information.
Concord also advised residents to email CMLP Customer Service or call 978-318-3101 to report the incident. Scammers are able to “spoof” a Caller ID number so that it appears as though the utility really is calling. "Don’t be fooled," the town said in a statement.
