Concordia Consort: "Grand Tour Baroque Music", Nov 19 in Concord

A Grand Tour of Europe with music from Italy, Germany and England performed with voice, recorder, lute and viola da gamba.

Known for expertise in Renaissance music from European courts and chapels, Concordia Consort takes a musical leap forward into the Baroque era with a whirlwind tour program featuring songs by Claudio Monteverdi and Girolamo Frescobaldi; arias from operas by the “Georges” — George Frideric Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann; a beloved aria from Antonio Vivaldi’s "Gloria"; and a quirky recorder sonata by Neapolitan composer Francesco Mancini. Also on the program, a Telemann cantata based on the commandment to “love thy neighbor as thyself”, and delightful songs from London’s lively theatre scene by Thomas Arne.

The concert takes place on Sunday, November 19 at 4 PM in the Parish Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord. Admission is by suggested donation of $20, $15 for students, seniors and members of early music societies.

The performers include Eileen Cecelia Callahan, soprano; Sheila Beardslee, recorder; Douglas Freundlich, lute; and Alice Mroszczyk, viola da gamba. This is the final performance of Concordia's Fall concert series. Concordia Consort is ensemble in residence at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord.
