Recital of English Renaissance music followed by Choral Evensong sung by Trinity's Parish Choir

On Sunday, March 4 at 5 PM, Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord presents a prelude recital by Concordia Consort, ensemble in residence at Trinity, featuring English Renaissance music for voice and recorders. Following the Consort's program, Trinity's Parish Choir sings choral evensong under the direction of Robert Barney, organist/choir director.
Concordia Consort -- Eileen Cecelia Callahan, soprano, and Sheila Beardslee, Nouri Newman and Brian Warnock, recorders -- will perform anthems, mass movements, and psalms by Byrd, Morley, and Tallis, as well as instrumental works by Taverner, Coprario, and Bull. This program will last about 30 minutes.
Trinity's Parish Choir will sing the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis by Orlando Gibbons, the haunting motet Ave verum corpus by William Byrd, and psalm settings in Anglican chant.

Evensong — the service of Evening Prayer sung by a choir — dates back to 1549 and is still sung daily in cathedrals in England and other countries within the Anglican Communion. For centuries, the service has inspired the creation of music specifically for it. At Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord, Evensong is held several times over the year, sung by the Trinity Parish Choir (adults) or visiting choirs, and one choral evensong is given annually by Trinity’s Youth Choir.
Admission to this program is FREE and all are welcome. Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 81 Elm Street in Concord, is fully handicap-accessible.
