Concord's 2017 Honored Citizen Selected
Public Ceremonies Committee recognizes Jeffrey W. Adams as the Town's 2017 Honored Citizen

The Public Ceremonies and Celebrations Committee is pleased to announce that Jeffrey W. Adams has been selected as Concord’s 2017 Honored Citizen. A reception in his honor will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Concord’s Town House. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this celebration.
Each year since 1962, the Town of Concord has recognized some very deserving citizens who have demonstrated community service and volunteerism in the town’s best interest. Jeff and his family have lived in Concord for over thirty years.
Jeff has served town government on the 2001 Landfill Study Committee, two terms on the Public Works Commission, Planning Board, Estabrook Woods Access Study Committee, Community Preservation Committee, and several years to this present day on the Natural Resources Commission. Jeff has served on the Alcott, Thoreau and CCHS School Building Committees and on numerous task groups including the Village Overlay Study, Landfill Study, Hugh Cargill Task Force, Wastewater Management Study, Recreation Space Study, and Open Space Planning Committee.

2017 marks the tenth year that Jeff has been a Trustee of the Concord Free Public Library, and on their Special Collections Committee (which oversees the Town archive), and also as a one-man Building Committee. Jeff participated in the Old Manse Committee and has served as a Trustee at the Fenn School since 1993, as well as a member of the Advisory Council for the Umbrella Community Arts Center and a current member of their building committee.
As the father of five boys, Jeff became active in community recreation soon after his move to Concord by coaching soccer, hockey, and baseball. A former head of Concord’s Recreation Department recalls that “Jeff was involved in a number of major community projects working with the Recreation Department including, as President of Concord Youth Soccer, he spearheaded and partnered with us on the construction of Cushing Field located at Old Marlboro Road at the Peabody Middle School. In addition, Jeff held the leadership position on the committee to construct the artificial turf fields at CCHS. Jeff’s warm style and cooperative nature enabled the youth sports organizations to form an alliance and work positively together for the Concord community and its youth.” Furthermore, one nominator wrote “Jeff was part of the establishment of the Danner DeStephano Scholarship and raised over $125,000 to make it possible for the Recreation Department to offer summer camp scholarships to deserving families in Concord.”

A graduate of Bowdoin College, Jeff is the owner of J.W. Adams Construction, Inc., located on Sudbury Road. He has devoted the majority of his residency in town to community service, and as a nominator states, “Both through his construction business and through his extraordinary record as a volunteer, Jeff has had a lasting impact on the Town of Concord, by making it a better place to play, grow, learn, and live and by preserving its heritage and natural resources.”
Please join the Town and the Public Ceremonies and Celebrations Committee in congratulating Jeff Adams on this well-deserving honor for his longstanding commitment to town and non-profit service.
