A visit to Verrill Farm the Sunday after Labor Day provides a fun and tasty transition between the last days of Summer and the beginning of Fall. The September 11th event includes a traditional barbecue prepared in the farm stand kitchen, farm demonstrations, contests, activities and live music. Hours are 11 am - 3 pm. For information on this and all Verrill Farm events, call 978.369.4494 or visit www.verrillfarm.com.
The harvesting of Verrill Farm grown crops peaks in September and bridges the seasons from Summer’s sweet corn to beets and tomatoes - crops perfect for ‘putting up’ to enjoy all year, and winter
squashes - a tasty forecast of seasons to come. To get a glimpse of how this local produce is planted, cultivated and harvested there will be demonstrations of old and new farm equipment - from traditional horse drawn plows to the modern tractors used at Verrill Farm today. And for those who wonder how time in the gym compares to time on the farm, there will be a hay bale throwing
contest!
The Barbecue and Farm Day activities take place outside under tents beside the stand and include:
