Faure "Requiem" & Choral Evensong, Nov 2 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord

Trinity Parish Choir sings Fauré's "Requiem" followed by choral evensong on Sunday, Nov 2 at 5 PM. FREE -- all welcome.

Trinity Episcopal Church invites you to a Prelude Recital and Choral Evensong on Sunday, November 2 at 5 PM in the main sanctuary at 81 Elm Street in Concord. This program of special music celebrates the Feast of All Saints.

The half-hour prelude to the traditional Choral Evensong will be Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem”. Guest soloists Kisha James, soprano. and Kuk James, baritone, will be joined by guest organist Jim Barkovic and members of the Trinity Parish Choir under the direction of Robert Barney, Trinity’s music director.

Following the recital, Robert Barney directs the Parish Choir in a traditional Choral Evensong, featuring “Responses” by Philip Radcliff, Psalm settings by Edwin Edwards and Charles Stanford, “Magnificat” and “Nunc dimittis” by Charles Wood, and Edgar Bainton’s haunting anthem on the Revelation text “And I saw a new Heaven.”

The service of Choral Evensong originated in 1549 with the first Book of Common Prayer for the Anglican Church. Composers have written settings of this liturgy and Anglican choirs throughout the world sing it regularly in cathedrals, churches and chapels. To some this service feels like a concert and others are drawn into the spiritual realm by the transcendent music. Please come and experience it in your own way. Trinity offers this service several times throughout the year.

All are welcome at no charge. For further information, please call Trinity’s parish office, 978/369-3715 or visit http://www.trinityconcord.org.
