Holy Week Services at Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord

Services, readings, and music April 14-21, for the days leading up to Easter 2019

Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord, announces its Holy Week schedule for 2019. All in the community are invited to attend any or all of these.

Palm Sunday: Sunday, April 14 at 8:00 & 10:00 am
Procession with Palms, reading of the Passion story, and Holy Eucharist at both services.
Trinity’s Parish Choir sings Lotti’s Crucifixus; organist Robert Barney plays Bach’s Fugue in g minor (Little).

Women of the Passion: Tuesday, April 16 at 7:00 pm.
Dramatic readings about the women who met Jesus and how their lives were transformed by him.

Tenebrae: Wednesday, April 17 at 7:00 pm
Sopranos Sally Sanford and Brooke Bryant sing the Lamentations of Jeremiah by 15th-century composer Johannes de Quadris. Members of Trinity’s Parish Choir will chant psalms and responsories as darkness envelopes the sanctuary.

Maundy Thursday: April 18 at 7:00 pm
This service commemorates Christ’s foot washing of the apostles and the Last Summer. Trinity’s Parish Choir sings Durufle’s Ubi caritas; organist Robert Barney plays organ works by Langlais. Following the service, the altar is stripped. The Labyrinth and Stations for Holy Week are available for further contemplation and prayer.

Good Friday: Friday, April 19 at 7:00 am and 12:00 Noon
The 12 noon service features members of Trinity’s Parish Choir chanting Christ’s Passion according to St. John. Following this, there will be a half hour of meditative music by Concordia Consort. The Labyrinth and Stations for Holy Week are available for further contemplation and prayer.

Great Vigil: Saturday, April 20 at 7:00 pm
Holy Eucharist with music. Youth Choir sings Jesus Christus, Gottes Sohn from Bach’s cantata Christ lag in Todesbanden, with violinist Peter Dabos. Parish Choir sings This joyful Eastertide.

Easter Sunday, April 21 at 8:00 and 10:00 am
Festival Eucharist with choirs, organ and Bala Brass at both services. The Youth Choir sings Ireland’s It is a thing most wonderful; Parish Choir sings Pachelbel’s Nun danket alle Gott.
