ICYMI: Outdoor Burning Season Has Begun In Concord: Know The Rules

Here is what you need to know about open burning in Concord, including permission and open burning tips.

CONCORD, MA – The outdoor burning season in Massachusetts started on Jan. 15 and ends on May 1. To burn on a given day, visit the activation page and enter your permit number.

Here are Concord's requirements for open burning season, according to the Concord Fire Department:

1. A permit is required for all open burning

2. Burning is only allowed between 10am & 4pm
3. ALL FIRES MUST BE EXTINGUISHED BY 4pm
4. Under the law you are allowed to burn debris from the following: Domestic tree
trimming and pruning, domestic garden preparations, commercial nursery tree
trimming and pruning, government nursery and forest tree trimming and pruning,
maintenance of existing ways.
5. Burning must be at least 75 feet from all buildings.
6. NO HAY, GRASS LEAVES, PINE NEEDLES, WHOLE TREES, STUMPS,
CARPENTRY DEBRIS, BUILDING DEBRIS, PAPER OR RUBBISH MAY
BE BURNED AT ANY TIME.
7. Burning must take place on land proximate to the source of material being burned.
8. No land clearing, site clearing or development debris may be burned.
9. Burning must be conducted without causing hardship or nuisance to others.
10. The fire must NEVER be left unattended
11. A means of extinguishing the fire must be available at all times.
12. The issuing of a permit does not release the holder from liability for damage
caused by their fire.
13. The use of accelerants is strictly prohibited.
14. Permission to burn must be obtained each day prior to starting any open burning
by registering online or calling 978-318-3488.
15. You may only register between the hours of 9 AM and 12 PM
You have been approved for open burning by the Concord Fire Department in
Accordance with MGL Ch. 48, Sec. 13.
