Westford resident Julia Burns, a patient care technician at Emerson Hospital, recently received the Most Valuable People (MVP) award. The honor is part of Emerson’s reward and recognition program, which is presented to staff for superior job performance.
Burns, who works in the Wheeler 4 unit for adult and pediatric care, is described as a positive role model for all her peers who goes above and beyond her job title and responsibilities. She ensures that the unit operates in an organized manner by completing administrative tasks such as answering phones and making charts, to enabling nurses to perform their duties with increased efficiency and decreased stress.

Burns approaches patients, visitors and their family members with warmth and compassion, while maintaining a high level of communication, respect and professionalism with her co-workers. She remains cheerful and positive in all situations, and encourages patients to participate in their care and work hard toward their recovery.
