Lexington Community Education presents: A Walking Introduction to Lexington

Leader-guided field trips to four of Lexington's most popular conservation properties beginning October 7th.

Lexington has set aside over 1300 acres as permanently protected conservation land with trails that traverse meadows, fields, forests, and wetlands. If you have never visited any of Lexington’s conservation properties, perhaps because you aren’t sure where they are, how to access them, or what you will find there, this outdoor “class” will introduce you to the opportunities they offer. The four-session class will be comprised of leader-guided field trips to four of Lexington’s most popular conservation properties: Chiesa Farm, Hayden Woods, the Paint Mine, and Whipple Hill. These properties are located in different parts of the Town and include a variety of terrain types, habitats and resources. As we walk along the trails through the each property, we will explore the resources they offer and talk about their historical features. The pace will be moderate, and the distance covered will be between a half mile and 1 mile. Each class will meet at an entrance to the conservation property we are exploring that week. Detailed information about the meeting locations will be provided to class members prior to the first meeting. An optional material fee of $10.00 is to be paid directly to the instructor at the first meeting for a copy of the Trail Gide to Lexington’s Conservation Lands.

Walks will be co-led by Eileen Entin and Keith Ohmart. Eileen Entin and Keith Ohmart are long-term residents of Lexington and have visited, done volunteer work in, and led walks through Lexington’ Conservation lands for the past 15-20 years. Both are members of the Greenways Corridor Committee. Eileen is president of Citizens for Lexington Conservation and Keith is a director of Lexington’s Conservation Stewards.

The class will meet on four Tuesdays beginning October 7th from 10:00am - 12 noon. The cost of the class is $40.00/Seniors $30.00. Pre-registration, using a MasterCard or VISA, is required by contacting Lexington Community Education at 781 862 8043.
