Patriots Softball Waits, Wins in Semifinals

C-C moves on to sectional final; boys' lacrosse bows out in semifinals

The Concord-Carlisle High School Patriots must be a patient bunch.

Waiting an extra day to play its Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Division I North semifinal, originally scheduled for Thursday, did little to deter No. 2 Concord-Carlisle. The Patriots shut out No. 3 Acton-Boxboro 5-0 at Martin Field in Lowell on Friday night.

That sets up a date with two-time defending state champion Lexington, the 12th seed, in the sectional final on Sunday. The championship was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was pushed back because of the CCHS graduation is the same day.

In other tournament action, the No. 2 Concord-Carlisle boys' lacrosse team was eliminated in the East Division II semifinals with a 7-6 loss to No. 3 Medfield at Lincoln-Sudbury High on Friday.

Junior Ben Lesser scored three goals for the Patriots, while senior Jack Delehey, sophomore Jackson Finigan and junior Max Barrett had one apiece. Senior goalie Rob Snook made 11 saves for the Patriots, who finish the season with a 17-4 record.

In the softball game, the Patriots (22-1) won behind another tournament shutout by junior pitcher Gayle Miner, who beat Woburn 11-0 earlier in the postseason. Miner struck out three and allowed six hits.

Senior Jesse Bilafer was 3-for-3, including a triple, with two RBIs. Junior Anna Kokos contributed a two-run single.
