Reading for Well-Being

Concord Free Public Library

Lara Wilson, Concord Festival of Authors curator and founder of Be Well Be Here, invites you to discuss "bibliowellness" and the novels that changed your outlook, if not your life. The event will take place on Monday, November 4 at 7 p.m. at the Main branch of the Concord Free Public Library (129 Main Street).

Why is reading so good for us? Studies show that reading fiction allows the brain to enter a restful state, which enhances our ability to empathize with ourselves and others. According to an article in The New Yorker, "Can Reading Make You Happier?", "regular readers sleep better, have lower stress levels, higher self-esteem, and lower rates of depression than non-readers."
