Silent Films for Hallowe'en with live organ accompaniment by Peter Krasinski

Fun Halloween event in Concord, MA open to the public. First film is funny and great for the entire family. Second film is a bit scarier.

Open to the Public! Trinitarian Congregational (TriCon) Church at 54 Walden Street, Concord, MA will host two silent films for Hallowe’en with organist Peter Krasinski on Saturday, October 28th at 7:00pm-9:30pm. Mr. Krasinski will magically improvise a full score “on the spot” with TriCon's new Noack pipe organ.

“THE HAUNTED HOUSE” (1921) starring Buster Keaton
“DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE” (1920) starring John Barrymore

The evening opens with a short film, “Haunted House” (21 min) and its lighthearted hilarity promises fun for all ages. A bank teller gets into a mess when overturned glue makes everything stick to everything. When the bank is robbed, he can’t “stick ’em up” because his hands are stuck in his pockets. The thieves’ hideout is a haunted house designed to scare off police.

After intermission, prepare to get really scared as the legendary John Barrymore becomes Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” (69 min.) of Jekyll and Hyde. Roger Fristoe writes that the horrific effects of Barrymore’s transformation between the characters was especially startling to audiences of the day, who idealized the famous actor as a handsome, romantic figure. The New York Times called Barrymore’s performance as “one of pure motion-picture pantomime on as high a level as has ever been attained by anyone.”

Hallowe’en costumes are encouraged and will be admired, but not required. Come for one or both films.
