Special volunteer opportunity with Household Goods May 13-25

From May 13 – May 25, volunteers have many opportunities to be part of Household Goods' biggest donation collection week of the year.

Boston College’s graduation is Monday, May 21, and in the week preceding and immediately after the ceremony, thousands of BC students move out of their dorms and leave behind usable household goods, including lamps, microwaves, coffee makers, vacuums, sheets, towels, and blankets. For the eighth year in a row, Acton-based Household Goods will spend 8 days on campus to collect these donations. The items will be used for months to come by Household Goods to help families in need set up their homes.

Help from volunteers during the BC Move Out is crucial to making the collection a reality and a success. With short shifts and no training required, the BC Move Out is ideal for people looking for a one-time volunteer opportunity. They will join the hundreds of regular Household Goods volunteers who take part in this annual event.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Collect and load donations at BC from Sunday, May 13 through Tuesday, May 22 – but especially Monday, May 21, graduation day.
  • Unload the trucks coming back from BC at the Household Goods facility, 530 Main St. in Acton, from Monday, May 14 through Tuesday, May 22.
  • Sort, clean and process donations Monday May 14 through May 25.
