CCHS coach holds soccer clinic; Beede center tiles are being replaced; more oversight of West Concord pond is urged; Rotary Club golf tournament is around the corner

This week the Slocum Soccer School held it's week-long camp at Concord-Carlisle High School.

The soccer camp is open to girls of all ages and is run by longtime Patriots girls' coach Nancy Slocum. She has run the school for the past 12 years.

On Friday, the camp's final day, the girls played games, worked through drills and were treated to a reward of cake.

On Saturday, Concord Patch reported that the tiled areas around the pools at the Beede Swim and Fitness Center are being replaced. It is unknown why tiles are cracking and falling out of place, but Thoughtforms, the Acton architectural firm that designed the pool, offered to replace all the tiles free of charge.

Early this week, Jim Lyon, a member of the White Pond Advisory Committee, urged town selectmen for more oversight of White Pond. Lyon stressed the trail network that leads to and from the water and other recreational activities centered on the pond.

The Rotary Club of Concord's Thomas R. Huckins Memorial Golf Tournament will take place Aug. 30. This year the tournament makes its return to Concord Country Club. It had been played at a golf course in Stow the past few years.

The tournament raises funds for the Concord Carlisle Scholarship Fund, which goes to students at Concord-Carlisle High School and Minuteman Regional Technical High School.
