Sports Week in Review, Aug. 30 - Sept. 4
High School teams close out preseason practices; Rotary Club holds annual golf tournament.
Don't fret, high school sports fans. The start of the fall season is less than a week away. Last week, the teams at Concord-Carlisle High School put the finishing touches on their preseason practices.
The Patriots girls' soccer team has high expectations this year, after losing two games into the sectional tournament last season. C-C finished the 2009 season 10-7-3 and was bounced from the playoffs by eventual state finalist Acton-Boxborough High School.
Coach Nancy Slocum said last week that the team has many of the same players back. So a deep run into postseason isn't out of the question this fall. The Patriots start their quest at home against Waltham High School on Saturday.

The C-C football team gets its regular season going the same day at Beverly High School.
Last week, Coach Mike Robichaud wrapped up his team's preseason practice schedule on Friday. The coach said what's most important for his team is to find some consistency before the games really count.

Tournament co-chair Phyllis Maurer expected the money raised to at least equal the 2009 total of $17,500.
