Sports Week in Review, July 10 - July 16

CCHS grad hosts fundraising lacrosse tournament; Nashawtuc CC golfers compete in State Am.

Dozens of lacrosse players took to Doug White Memorial Field at Concord-Carlisle High School and played their hearts and souls out last Saturday in the name of breast cancer awareness.

CCHS graduate Andrew Leavitt organized the event, aptly named Ellen's Heart and Soul Shootout, in honor of his late mother, Ellen, a victim of breast cancer. Music was played, raffles were held and proceeds benefited the Healing Garden.

A pair of Nashawtuc Country Club golfers had a busy week on the course this week. Beginning Monday, Jeremy Meade and Dan Cappucci competed in the 102nd Massachusetts Amateur Championship with the Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton.

Cappucci finished the first two rounds of stroke play tied for 77th at 14-over-par 158 (77-81). Meade tied for 138th at 32-over 176 (86-90). The top 32 moved on to the match play portion of the tournament.

On Wednesday, the Concord Post 158 American Legion baseball team closed out the regular season with a 7-1 win over Ashland Post 77 at Emerson Playground.

Jake Anzer pitched six strong innings to lead the home team, which enters the postseason with a 10-9 record.
