The story has a good ending, but for a while Sunday afternoon, a swimmer was reported missing from White Pond.
According to a resident of the pond area, where the White Pond Association has a private beach, a person swam out into the pond on a hot afternoon, but apparently did not tell anyone.
Evan Ricker, of Shore Drive, said he was about to climb the stairs to his home after spending time on the water when he saw association lifeguards clear the roped off swimming area and search the water.

Finding no one, Ricker said the town fire department began searching the water outside the association boundaries. He said they had rafts and rescue boards that can be used for emergencies. The plied the water, fanning out looking for the individual.
As Ricker was about to jump in his own boat and help in the search, he heard from a passing emergency worker that the person was found at the other end of the pond safe.
