Talk and Slideshow

CONCORD –The Concord Free Public Library is pleased to announce that John Hanson Mitchell will present a talk and slideshow on the journals kept by his father, James Archibald Mitchell, while he was living in China from 1915 – 1918. The talk will take place at the Main Library (129 Main Street) on Thursday, November 16th at 7:00 PM.
The journals contain a personal account of his father’s time in China during the Warlord Period in both words and photographs, and a record of peasant life, boat families, climbing and hunting expeditions, and images of the Chinese people and their land.
Mitchell attended the Sorbonne and is a graduate of Columbia University with a degree in comparative literature. A former journalist, he has had assignments in Kerala, India and the South China Sea and has written extensively about Western Europe. He was editor of The Curious Naturalist, and a co-author of the coffee table edition of The Nature of Massachusetts (1998).
