Twenty Classic Sci-Fi Movies and Why They Are Good for You

A talk by Randall Warniers

Join Randall Warniers for a talk on “Twenty Classic Sci-Fi Movies and Why They Are Good for You”! The event will take place on Monday, May 4 at 7 PM via Zoom through the Concord Free Public Library.

Science-fiction movies have thrilled and entertained audiences of all ages throughout the history of cinema. Many of us are big fans of the genre, and we have favorite sci-fi films that we look forward to seeing over and over. This talk and slide presentation will discuss twenty important classic science-fiction movies, many of them popular and well known, and many of them less well known. There will also be a few choices that will surprise you! The time period of the films will range from a 1927 classic of the silent era to the most controversial science-fiction film of the 1960s. Most of the films will be American film classics from the studio era, both low budget and big budget. Selected films from England, France, Germany, and Japan will also be included and discussed. They all have the same purpose—bringing a measure of inspiration, imagination, and delight to movie viewers. We won’t watch any of the films during the talk, but all are available either on DVD or through a streaming service. A pdf summary of the talk with a list of the twenty selected films (plus extra added attractions) will be available for future reference and viewing.
