Whimsy for Sale at Concord Firefly

Mary Klinoff opens new store in West Concord.

One of the bestselling toys at Concord Firefly, a boutique which opened in West Concord last month, is the Lasertop. The Lasertop toy spins on the floor with its multiple colors and lights up the room. Another bestselling toy on backorder is the Whammit, a blow-up toy designed to get a good laugh.

With "fun and lighthearted stock," Concord Firefly's savvy business owner, Mary Klinoff, business woman for the past 30 years, has embarked on a new direction.

She hasn't had a day off since making her move.

Klinoff's goal is to cater to all ages and "not leave anyone out and to offer sophisticated, funky goods at modest prices."

Offering an eclectic and inviting mix of items including earrings, stuffed animals, scarves, socks and clothes, Firefly seems destined to be filled with customers. For the younger set, there is an old-time favorite display in the corner.

"I always wanted to sell penny candy," Klinoff noted.

On the go and moving quickly between her business ventures, Klinoff is also involved with Dabblers Hobbies and Cafe located just a short stroll away at 119 Commonwealth Avenue. Klinoff is filled with energy and lights up the room just like her bestselling toys.

Klinoff's retail efforts originally started in West Concord and she is glad to be able to go "down to her roots" again. She hopes to "keep it simple" and with her many years of business experience in Concord, she hasn't yet done any formal advertising.

"It's word-of-mouth," Klinoff said.

Firefly is in a historic renovated house in space formerly occupied by a travel agency. The owners stripped the building down to the walls and rebuilt the whole interior.

Firefly is at 23 Commonwealth Avenue.
