YMCA of Greater Boston Welcomes Shanique Smith to General Board

BOSTON, Mass. – The YMCA OF Greater Boston is pleased to announce Shanique Smith, Director of Low Rate Production for Air and Missile Defense Radar systems at Raytheon Company, as a new member of the General Board.

Smith, a resident of Concord, has served on the Engineering Industry Advisory Board at USC as well as on the Board of Directors for the Tucson YWCA and National Charity League Board. With over 20 years of experience, she has received numerous engineering awards and recognition, including the Black Engineer of the Year “Modern Day Technologist,” Women of Color in Technology and Defense, Raytheon Technical Honors, and Woman on the Move.

“By serving more than 55 communities, the Y is uniquely positioned to create communities of caring people to improve health and empower youth,” says YMCA of Greater Boston President and CEO James Morton. “We are thrilled to have Shanique on board to strategize how we will continue to provide meaningful and transformational programs in our community.”

Prior to her current assignment, Smith was the Staff Executive to the Chairman and CEO at Raytheon’s corporate headquarters in Waltham. Previously, she served in multiple roles throughout the company managing program supply chains, cross-business unit international business opportunities, and developing engineering services contracts.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tuskegee University and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona.

YMCA of Greater Boston board members commit to serving the organization over the course of three years. As a board member, Smith will help to govern and lead the more than 160-year-old institution and ensure that the Y delivers on its mission to strengthen the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
