Youth Baseball Teams Finish Season

Concord-Carlisle Cal Ripken squads close out year in district tournament

Several Concord-Carlisle Cal Ripken baseball teams closed out their seasons in district tournament play last week. The Concord-Carlisle 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-year-old teams all advanced to the tournament for the first time. And though none advanced, all posted solid performances with each team winning at least one game.

The C-C 9s posted a 1-2 mark at their tournament in Waltham. They lost the opener to Winchester 9-6, beat Arlington National 5-3 and lost to Arlington American 8-7. Team members were Noah Alter, David Berman, Joshua Bohn, Mark Driscoll, Michael Driscoll, Cameron Emde-Gerdine, Alex Hamel, Toby Kleyn, Andrew Nicoll, Jack Verrilli, Patrick Walsh and Michael Wholihan. Coaches were Andy Berman, Larry Walsh and Ralph Verrilli.

Concord-Carlisle also posted a 1-2 record in the 10-year-old tournament in Burlington. A 12-10 win over Warrendale got the 10s off to a good start, but they were eliminated with losses to Revere (10-5) and Arlington American (4-2). The C-C team included Chris Knauss, Blayne Dee, Tucker Boynton, Alexander Hill, Jack Fell, Paul Michaud, Austin Pinard, Ben Kacher, Jacob Dudley and Patrick McGann. Norm Marowitz and Charlie Dee coached the 10s.

In the 11-year-old tournament at Arlington, Concord-Carlisle split four games played. It defeated Bedford 8-3 and Revere 15-2 and had losses of 9-8 to Burlington and 5-0 to Arlington American. The team consisted of Ryan Attonito, Ben Caruso, Nick Charde, Brendan Fitzgerald, Patrick Forelli, Sam Heinrich, Matt Killian, Kyle Maxwell, John Mulligan and Tim West, while Sal Caruso, John Forelli and Rick West were the coaches.

The C-C 12s -- Patrick Crowley, Spencer Riddick, Austin Hoey, Kevin Sykes, Evan Maione, Ben Gainsboro, Dan Brockway, Max Bohn, Gus Sample, Ethan vanderWilden, Sam Eaton and David Frenkil – won two games in their tournament at Marblehead.
