Youth in Philanthropy Students Present $6,000 in Grants to Local Nonprofits
Students from Nashoba Brooks School presented Wayside Youth & Family Support Network-Tempo and Access Sports America with grants

Nashoba Brooks students involved with Youth in Philanthropy (YIP), a program offered by the Foundation for MetroWest that provides middle and high school students with philanthropic opportunities, concluded their session by presenting Wayside Youth & Family Support Network-Tempo and Access Sports America with grants totaling $6,000. Held March 8 at Nashoba Brooks School in Concord, the giving ceremony enabled the students to present the grants and share their overall experience with parents, teachers, classmates and community members.
YIP is a unique extracurricular educational program designed for middle and high school students who are interested in learning more about the nonprofit sector, the needs that exist in their own community and learn how to become the next generation of philanthropists through this hands on experience and group collaboration. For the last 15 weeks, 19 students from Nashoba Brooks in grades 7-8 participated in the YIP program offered at the school. The students learned to research local nonprofits, and had the opportunity to conduct site visits to four area nonprofits to learn about their missions and impact before selecting two worthy nonprofits to receive $6,000 in grant funding.
“The students’ decision to provide the Wayside Tempo program and Access Sports America with grants was rooted in a firm understanding of nonprofit organizations, as well as the impact that this funding can have on the organization and the community,” said Caroline Murphy, Senior Program Officer at the Foundation for MetroWest. “We are extremely proud of the work done by the YIP students at the Nashoba Brooks School to support their local community and appreciate the strong partnership with Nashoba Brooks to offer YIP to their student community.”
