TOPSFIELD, MA — A North Shore teen died from injuries suffered in a single-car crash in Topsfield on Thursday night.
Topsfield police said they responded to a crash into a tree on Washington Street at about 10 p.m. They found the 19-year-old trapped in the car, suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Police said they used the "jaws of life" to remove the teen and he was rushed to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Topsfield Police Capt. Daniel Bell and Topsfield Fire Chief Jen Collins-Brown praised the "heroic actions of the neighbors and bystanders at the accident scene."
"Their actions were critical to patient treatment," they said in a joint statement. "Our thoughts are with everyone involved and impacted by this tragic situation."
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that speed was a factor in the crash.
