DANVERS, MA — Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School welcomed alumni, families, community members and supporters to its annual Larkin Gala at the newly renovated Larkin Building on the campus in Danvers.
The gala raised funds to support preservation of the Larkin Building and the Catherine Larkin Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship provides financial assistance to Essex Tech students as they pursue educational and career goals. The event also celebrates the legacy of Lt. Catherine Larkin, a World War II nurse and Essex County Agricultural School alumna.
A featured part of the evening was the Larkin Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes a person who has made lasting contributions to agricultural and technical fields through professional achievements and service.
This year's recipient was Mark Strout, who was honored for his contributions to the school community. Strout is the Marblehead representative on the District School Committee, where the school said he leads several subcommittees.
Strout is a retired assistant principal from Danvers High School and is often on campus supporting students.
The night also included an auction with donated items and experiences, including handcrafted projects made by Essex Tech students, vacation getaways, sporting event tickets and contributions from local businesses and community supporters.
"The Larkin Gala is a wonderful example of the connections that make Essex Tech such a special community," said Superintendent Heidi T. Riccio. "From the generosity of our alumni and community partners to the talents of our students, this event reflects the pride we share in our school's history and our commitment to creating opportunities for future generations."
Essex Tech said it appreciates the event organizers, sponsors, auction donors, volunteers, and attendees whose support helped make the evening possible.
The annual gala was centered on preserving an important campus building and helping students through the memorial scholarship.
