DANVERS, MA — One Danvers neighborhood that has been dressing up for Halloween for more than a decade is now looking to make the efforts of residents a destination for North Shore trick-or-treaters.
Residents of Wadsworth Street in Danvers have cultivated a culture where more than 95 percent of homes put out elaborate Halloween displays and give out candy. The show has even spilled over onto nearby Braman Street.
While the neighbors invited friends and family over each year to enjoy the show, this year they are coining it "Witching on Wadsworth" in hopes of gaining more attention and more trick-or-treaters.
They are encouraging the trick-or-treaters to come out on Halloween Night this Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 to see the lights, feel the chills and cash in on some candy.
One of the residents told Patch that the displays began as a friendly competition between neighbors and "grew into something the whole street shares."
"Everyone hands out candy, and family and friends come from all over to celebrate and trick-or-treat together because it feels so safe and welcoming," she said.
The location is located a short walk from the Rebecca Nurse Homestead with the neighbors deciding to really take it up another notch this year in conjunction with Salem's 400th anniversary.
