Average Danvers Property Tax Bill Going Up $181 Next Year

Danvers Selectmen set a tax rate Thursday that raises the tax bill on an average home by 3.01%.

DANVERS, MA -- The typical Danvers homeowner will see their property tax bill rise $181, or 3.01%, next year. Danvers Selectmen set tax rates for fiscal year 2019 Thursday night. The new rates also see an increase for commercial property owners, with the tax bill on the average commercial property going up $830.

The increases are slightly more for residential property owners, which selectmen said reflected the increase in residential property values. Selectmen chose a tax factor of 1.4 after considering higher factors, but opted for the lower figure to avoid putting too much of a burden on small businesses, which are already feeling pressure from minimum wage increases.

"This is probably one of my least favorite things all year long," Selectman Bill Clark said. "Over the last 10 or 12 years we’ve tried to be as fair as possible, and I’d like to continue that track."
