This youth night was a tremendous success. We had a total of 33 middle school students attend. When the students first arrived at youth night they had two options to choose from. Many students chose to participate in the open swim were they had access to the indoor pool at the Danvers YMCA. The rest of the students chose to play a variety of recreational games in the lower gymnasium. Both activities were well received and went off with out a hitch.
We then asked the students to get out of the pool and join us for the next activity. The following activity was called all my friend and neighbors. This activity was very fun and the students gained a lot by participating.
After, students were then served pizza from our local sponsor Panini Pizza. Students then had the opportunity to voice how they feel about drugs and alcohol/how they live a substance free lifestyle. Also identify what issues they think are a problem in our community. Many students decided to voice their options through poetry. They choose one of three themes including drugs and alcohol, healthy living and above the influence.

When students had completed eating we moved on to karaoke/poetry time. Students chose to either read their poems or sing a song. Before doing so they were required to say what their favorite part of the night was or how they plan to continue living a substance free lifestyle. The top three poems are receiving prizes and will be read over the announcements at Holten-Richmond Middle School during the substance free week.
Overall it was a fantastic, fun substance free night and we are hoping to hold many more in the future.
