Have an artistic August at ArcWorks Community Art Center! Workshops and events

Knitting, ceramics, portraiture and embroidery workshops are coming right up!
Knitting- Jan Pacak is moving away at the end of the summer and this is the last chance to take one of her workshops. On Wednesday, August 8th from 5:30 to 8pm, Jan will lead a group of adult newbie knitters and show three basic techniques. Participants will also get a good start on a beautiful summer-weight scarf using the magic ball technique! Rarely do we use up every inch of yarn that we buy for a project. Eventually, most knitters are overwhelmed with leftovers. Here's a fun way to use them up and create a beautiful knitted item at the same time. It's called "magic ball" knitting and some great practice yarn will be provided in the cost of the workshop. The cost of the workshop is $40.
Portraits- Our most popular instructor, Anna Salvo is leading another Saturday workshop series for young artists (14-18). In her comics course, she focused on fantasy and narrative but this time she will show students how to GET REAL and work on rendering portraits from observation using techniques from great artists throughout history. Students will meet from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, 11 and 18. $95

Games- On Saturday, Aug. 11 from 11-3, I’ll be leading a workshop designed around games and techniques used by artists to loosen up, collaborate and generate fresh imagery. Teens and adults are welcome to join. Together we will explore fun ways to break out of artistic ruts and not take ourselves too seriously. $45
Embroidery- Merritt Kirkpatrick is leading another embroidery workshop too! On August 30th and September 6th from 5:30-8:00, she will show adults some basic stitches and how to use them in a design. $55 for ages 15+

Ceramics- Peter Flister is also returning to the art center for "Pot Shot" a one day (August 28th from 5:30-7:30) wheel-throwing introduction for people interested in getting their hands in clay and taking it for a spin. $35 Ages 11+ August 28th from 5:30-7:30
As always, advance registration is required for our courses. Please contact Beth Mazzetta to register, bmazzetta@ne-arc.org or 978-624-2555.
Play-The only exception to the pre-registration rule is the Express your HeART creative play series for ages 2-5 that starts up again for it's second session on Thursdays -- August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 4:00-5:00 and is $15 for dropping in or $60 for the whole series.
Just a reminder: August's Pot Luck for the Creative Crowd is cancelled but I hope to see you on the second Thursday of September! You can still stitch socially at Stitch Club on August 1st!
