NSCC's Danvers Campus Sustainability Fair, October 22

Renewable Energy Technology will be the theme of North Shore Community College's (NSCC) Danvers  Sustainability Fair, which will be held October 22, 10a.m.-2p.m. at NSCC's Danvers Campus, 1 Ferncroft Road.

The fair, which is free and open to all, will feature tours of the college's new Health Professions and Student Services Building - the Commonwealth's first Zero Net Energy building - exhibits, environmentally sound vendors, face painting and free pumpkins (while they last) for the kids.

The student-led tours of NSCC's new building will highlight its "green" features such as geothermal heating and cooling, chilled beams, photovoltaic panels for electricity generation, passive solar heat dispersion shelves, green lighting and smart sensors, and a green roof.

The fair will feature a wide variety of exhibitors and vendors including:

Kelly Sheridan & friend - face painting, sugar pumpkin giveaway
Wally's Vegetables - fruit, vegetables, fall decor gourds, eggs and honey
Mehaffey Farm - vegetables, eggs and honey
Alfalfa Farm Winery - exhibit on a sustainable farm winery business
Gloucester Dog Park- nonprofit to create a recreational area for dogs and their guardians
Quinn's Canine Café - natural and organic homemade dog treats
The Soup Guy - all natural, gluten-free soups and chili, all locally sourced
Annarosa's - European-style breads, cookies and pastries
Suz Bath and Body - handmade soaps, lotion bars, salves and balms, bath salts and hand-poured soy candles
Zumi's Espresso - fair trade products, coffee and chocolates
Sarah J. Williams - Independent Eco-Consultant
Cindi McDermott - honey, beeswax products,and educational bee display
Deborah Ball - nutrition, wellness classes, & Reiki

Paul Cox - Second Generation Energy

Short presentations on topics related to energy and sustainability will be given by several speakers followed by a question and answer period. The speakers include Fred Hopps, Chairman of the Clean Energy Advisory Committee to the Beverly City Council; Douglas Leaffer, Adjunct Faculty, Merrimack College Environmental Engineering and Environmental Consultant; and Paul Marquis, Energy and Sustainability Manager for the City of Salem.

Also participating will be several NSCC departments and student clubs including Admissions, the Horticulture department and the Environmental Club.
