Rainy Sunday Scrabble Tournament at Peabody Institute

Description of Scrabble Tournament at Peabody institue Library in Danvers that took place May 15th at 1:00 pm.

Danvers Patch said The Scrabble Tournament at Danvers’ Peabody Institute Library was one of the “Five Best Things To Do.”

It was Sunday, May 15th at 1 PM in the Gordon Room of the Peabody Institute Library. The event was put on by the Friends of the Peabody Institute Library and Karen Ranien was Chairperson of this event. Other Friends were present: Nancy Ryan, Linda and Richard Carpenter, Dorothy Disorbo, Christine Watson, Paula and Sam Noyes and Library Director, Doug Rendell.

The Tournament had twenty-two participants and they played two games of Scrabble in groups of four and two until about 3:30 PM. There were two judges; Friends Richard and Linda Carpenter to check on disputed words. Madeline Berube won the raffle; a tote with Trader Joe's products. The largest score was Barbara Robbins who won a manicure from Tomani Skin Therapy and the top four won assorted prizes including: car washes from Hartnett Auto Body and a $45 gift certificate to Lydon Aquatics and games from Toys N Things.

The sponsors were Trader Joe's, Market Basket, Gatehouse Media, Toys N Thngs, Lydon Aquatics, Hartnett Car Wash, Danvers Herald and Tomani Skin Therapy. The event grossed $308 which is admirable for the first year.  The Library will have fun Scrabble matches on Thursday nights starting in June in the Children's Room. Call the Library at 978-774-0554 for details. The Friends hope to make the Tournament a yearly event.
