The 5 Element Smoothie

Combining the tastes/elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine increases the flow of life energy throughout the organs of your body. Get the recipe and start blending!

We learn the BEST things from our customers! Frank, an Each Peach Cafe regular, told me about this video clip of the 5 Element Smoothie, and I highly recommend taking the 11 minutes to watch it. Don't have 11 minutes? Here's the gist...

Ingredients:
1 peeled lemon
A sweet fruit (mango, pineapple, banana, etc.)
1 teaspoon crystal salt brine solution
Pinch cayenne pepper
1 C pure water (spring water the best!)
1 - 2 T flax oil (Barlean's the best!)

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, there are five tastes: sweet, sour, pungent, salt and bitter. Each taste corresponds to certain organs in the body.

Sweet, the earth element, corresponds to the stomach and spleen.
Sour, the wood element, corresponds to the gallbladder and liver.
Pungent, the metal element, corresponds to the colon and lungs.
Salt, the water element, corresponds to the bladder and kidney's.
Bitter, the fire element, corresponds to the small intestines and heart.

This smoothie recipe contains all five tastes. Fruits are sweet, lemon is sour, cayenne is pungent, the crystal salt brine solution is salt, flax oil is bitter. By combining the five elements in one smoothie, the flow of life energy (Chi) in the body is strengthened.
