Bridge Named in Memory of Fallen SJP Graduate Rededicated
US Army 1st Lieutenant Derek Hines, who was killed in 2005, was a 1999 graduate of St. John's prep.

A graduated was remembered earlier this month when his memorial bridge was rededicated.
US Army 1st Lt. Derek Hines, a 1999 graduate from SJP, was killed on Sept. 1 2005 in Baylough, Afghanistan at the age of 25 while serving his country.
The bridge over the Merrimack River between Newburyport and Amesbury, which is named for Hines — The First Lieutenant Derek S. Hines Memorial Bridge — was reopened and dedicated last week after a $24 million project which began in 2010, according to Boston.com.
