Join book store owners (and twin sisters!), Lily and Hannah Barrett, quarterly for 30 minutes of pure romance book recommendations - that are by diverse authors or have inclusive storylines! We're sure you'll find something to like from Lily and Hannah's many enthusiastic reviews.

Run by twin sisters Lily and Hannah Barrett, Read My Lips Boston is a pop-up diverse romance bookshop based in the Boston area. Read My Lips partners with breweries and cafes to host mobile shops with love stories starring those identifying as BIPOC, disabled, queer, big-bodied, and members of other groups historically underrepresented in the romance genre.
To Lily and Hannah, elevating their community is paramount; The shop gives 10% of its proceeds to area nonprofits. Read My Lips' mission addresses a gap the sisters felt growing up. Born deaf, they received cochlear implants as toddlers. Their parents read to them, teaching them speech and fostering a love of reading. Growing up, Lily and Hannah loved romance novels but struggled to find characters they could relate to. They started Read My Lips because they believe everyone deserves to be seen as the hero — not typecast as a villain or sidekick based on white, cis, hetero, straight-bodied and abled standards.

Betty Cayouette is the author of three novels, and the creator of Betty’s Book List. Betty’s debut novel ONE LAST SHOT sold to Macmillan’s St. Martin’s Press in a three book major deal. It was released in May 2024, and was the Afterlight book box pick. Her sophomore novel TELL ME HOW YOU REALLY FEEL released May 2025. Like most star-crossed lovers, they came from vastly different worlds. Elaine Goodale, a white woman who grew up on a farm in the remotest part of the Berkshires, was a poet, writer and teacher who’d come to the Dakota Territory in 1884 to teach Native American children. Ohíye S’a, or Charles Alexander Eastman, was a Santee Sioux, born in Minnesota and one of the only Native Americans educated at Dartmouth College and Boston University Medical School. He’d come to Pine Ridge as a reservation physician. Elaine and Charles improbably met in December 1890, and more surprisingly, fell in love. The first concert in the Topsfield Meetinghouse Foundation 2026 Concert Series is Classical Guitarist Scott Oulette.&nbsp; This is the first of three concerts in the iconic Meetinghouse on Main Street.&nbsp; Concert is from 7pm to 8pm.&nbsp; Admission is free.&nbsp; The Topsfield Meetinghouse Foundation is a 501c3 charitable foundation dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the historic Congregational Meetinghouse of Topsfield, Massachusetts; and to&nbsp;enhance the presence of the Meetinghouse within the Historic District of Topsfield through community involvement in cultural and musical programs.&nbsp; Additional concerts in the series will be held in July and September.&nbsp; The Concert is free and open to the public.

The 18th annual Salem Arts Festival returns June 5-7, 2026, as a special "Salem 400+" edition celebrating four centuries of Salem's creative heritage. This free, family-friendly event transforms historic downtown Salem into an immersive artistic experience, attracting over 10,000 visitors annually.
What to Expect
Explore a juried visual arts gallery at Old Town Hall featuring 60+ works by regional artists competing for Best in Show and the John Boris Memorial Award. Browse a curated artisan marketplace across downtown Salem on Saturday and Sunday, with local makers offering ceramics, jewelry, textiles, woodworking, prints, and more.
Experience live performances across multiple outdoor stages throughout the weekend, including music spanning folk to hip hop, dance from flamenco to contemporary, circus arts, poetry, and more. Watch 12 talented muralists transform blank canvases into vibrant 8'×4' artworks during the Mural Slam at Artists' Row, then vote for your favorite via QR code to determine the People's Choice winner.
Participate in hands-on art-making activities, contribute to the festival's signature Community Art Project, and kick off the weekend Friday evening with the Tiny Art Spree—a fast-paced art exchange fundraiser where $20 tickets give you the chance to take home original artwork.

Locations &amp; Access
The festival spans downtown Salem's most beloved spaces: Old Town Hall, Derby Square, Artists' Row, Armory Park, the Pedestrian Mall, and areas near the Peabody Essex Museum. Essex Street and Front Street close to vehicles Saturday and Sunday (8 AM-7 PM), creating pedestrian-friendly festival zones.
Free admission to all events and activities. Bathrooms are available at Artists' Row, the NPS Visitor Center, and Destination Salem. Rain contingency plans ensure performances continue regardless of the weather.

Produced collaboratively by Salem Main Streets and Creative Collective MA, the Salem Arts Festival strengthens Salem's creative economy while providing platforms for emerging and established artists.
