Coach Fravel Enjoys One More Day Coaching On The Sideline

BEVERLY, MA — Larry Fravel wanted to be Coach Larry Fravel for at least one day again.

CareOne of Beverly fulfilled Coach Fravel's desire on Friday when the staff organized a game that celebrated the Danvers native and former Swampscott and North Shore Tech football coach at the Beverly assisted-living facility.

The event was part of the CareOne "Make a Difference" campaign that allows residents to enjoy activities that have been otherwise difficult to enjoy enjoy amid the coronavirus health crisis.

The staff organized the game that was held on the facility's grounds last week.

Fravel, a resident of CareOne since 2019, served as the team's coach, led drills and called plays during the "scrimmage" held in front of friends and family.

There was also a concession stand, play-by-play commentary and music typically played at football games.

CareOne's "Make a Difference" campaign is based on the work of "Three Wishes for Ruby’s Residents," a charity created by 12-year-old Ruby Chitsey.

The non-profit organization seeks to make a difference for nursing home residents by providing small items that make a difference in the lives of elders.
