Danvers Bans Car Washing, Sprinklers Under Level 5 Water Restriction

Danvers residents will face tighter outdoor water restrictions starting July 21 after the town announced a move to Level 5 under the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Modified Drinking Water Permit.

The town said the change is tied to low flow in the Ipswich River and low water levels within the reservoir.

Under Level 5 drought conditions, outdoor lawn and garden watering is allowed only with hand-held hoses and cans, and only from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Sprinklers and irrigation systems are not permitted.

Swimming pool filling and car washing are also banned under the new restrictions.

Violations carry penalties. A first offense results in a warning letter. Subsequent violations may result in a $300 fine.

"We appreciate the cooperation of all residents during this period," the town said.
