Danvers Crash Leads To Driver Taking 20-Foot Fall Off Overpass

State police said the driver of one of the vehicles "either jumped or fell" from the Route 1 overpass onto Route 114 at about 9:15 a.m.

DANVERS, MA —A driver "either jumped or fell" from the Route 1 overpass onto Route 114 following a crash that injured two in Danvers Thursday morning, according to State Police.

Police said the two-vehicle crash involving a 2012 Ford Escape and a 2006 Subaru Forester SUV occurred on Route 1 at about 9:15 Friday morning. Police said after the crash they determined the driver of the Ford Escape "either jumped or fell 20 feet from the overpass to Route 114 below."

Police said that the man sustained serious injuries and that both he and the driver of the Forester were taken to an area hospital. Police had not provided information on the other driver as of 3 p.m.

An investigation is underway into how the crash transpired and how one of the drivers wound up on the road below the overpass.
