Danvers Fire Captain Named State's Educator Of The Year
Capt. James Brooks was honored for his fire safety prevention education efforts during the year of the coronavirus crisis.

DANVERS, MA — A Danvers fire captain has been honored with the prestigious Educator of the Year Award for his work throughout the coronavirus crisis to deliver the Student Awareness of Fire Education program to students amid the challenges of remote learning.
State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey presented Danvers Fire Capt. James Brooks with the 2o21 Fire & Life Safety award at the 26th annual state Fire & Life Safety Education Conference.
The Danvers Fire Department's fire prevention officer is credited with inspiring two local "young heroes" who kept their cool during fires and used their knowledge to help others escape safety.

"Captain Brooks' dedication to the safety of residents, visitors and especially the school children of Danvers is so impressive that he's inspired four firefighters to join the Danvers Fire and Life Safety Team, ensuring that the program will continue long after he retires," Ostroskey said.
Brooks is set to retire next year and has been training his successor in the fire prevention officer position.

The Massachusetts Fire & Life Safety Education Conference brings fire educators, prevention officers, teachers, care specialists, and others together to share knowledge, build partnerships and recognize the Fire & Life Safety Educator of the Year.
This year's conference was held at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa in Hyannis.
