Danvers Girls' Basketball Remains Unbeaten

Senior co-captain Kellie Macdonald tallied 42 points in wins against Swampscott and Winthrop this past week.

The Danvers High girls' basketball team ran its record to 4-0 with road wins against and Winthrop Tuesday night.

The Falcons were tested for a half by Swampscott and stood tied at the half, 15-15; however, Danvers' stifling defensive pressure limited the Big Blue to seven second-half points and the Falcons pulled away for a decisive 44-22 win.

Kellie Macdonald led the offense with 15 points while Kasey Sherry knocked down three 3-pointers and triggered the defense with a number of steals. Katie McKenna and Alison Tivnan cleaned the glass, combining for 19 rebounds.

Against Winthrop, Danvers held a 27-26 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half for a 57-46 victory. Macdonald was dominant with 27 points and nine rebounds and sparked a third-period surge with her foul shooting after multiple technical fouls were assessed. Sarah Palazola added nine points to go along with five assists and six steals in a solid all-around effort. Tivnan and Sherry chipped in with six points apiece.

The Falcons test the non-league waters next week when they play at Concord-Carlisle of the Dual County League on Dec. 29 at 6 p.m., then host Wakefield of the Middlesex League on New Year's Day at 1 p.m.
