The Danvers High School Academy Theatre (DHS ACTS) presents the family-pleasing musical “Shrek” on Friday, June 3 (7:30 PM); Saturday, June 4 (shows at 2 PM and 7:30 PM); and Sunday, June 5 (2 PM), at Danvers High School, 60 Cabot Road, Danvers, MA. General admission is $15, and $10 for students and seniors. Buy tickets online at http://www.danversacademytheatre.org/ or purchase them at the door.
Set in a mythical “once upon a time” land, “Shrek the Musical” is the story of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared by everyone his entire life, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. But a gang of homeless Fairytale Creatures raids his sanctuary because they’ve been evicted from Duloc by the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad. Shrek agrees to help them get their homes back if they’ll leave him alone, but when Shrek and Farquaad meet, the Lord strikes a different deal. He’ll give the Fairytale Creatures their homes back if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona. Shrek obliges, and finds something appealing yet strange about this pretty princess. He likes her – but wonders why she always runs off when the sun sets. Come see the show to find out if there’s a happily-ever-after ending for all!
The cast and crew of nearly 70 DHS students is looking forward to putting on a truly “Shrek-tastic” show under the direction of Kyla Moulton (Director), Tracie Ewing (Technical Director), and Alex Grover (Music Director). The cast also includes seven students from Holten Richmond Middle School, and two elementary school students (from Smith School and Highlands School) who play Young Fiona and Young Shrek.
