Danvers To Host Zero Waste Recycling Weekend

DANVERS, MA — Danvers residents will have a chance to recycle textiles, electronics, paper, metal and other items during the town's annual Zero Waste Recycling Weekend.

The Danvers Department of Public Works event will be held Oct. 24 and 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Danvers High School parking lot.

Proof of residency is required upon entry.

The town said the weekend is intended to give residents a place to recycle a wide variety of items that are not accepted in curbside bins.

The event will include Simple Recycling collection for clean, dry textiles and household goods. Residents can drop off clothing, shoes, purses, linens, comforters and household goods as long as they are bagged or boxed.

Electronics recycling will be handled by BoxQ Electronics Recycling. Residents may bring electronics and accessories, but no light bulbs, ballasts or batteries will be accepted.

Fees include $15 for computer monitors, $30 for TVs, $15 for printers and copiers, $5 for each stereo unit, $30 for refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, free for small appliances, and $10 for microwaves.

Payment for electronics recycling must be made by cash or check payable to BoxQ, Inc. No credit cards will be accepted.

Stoves, washers and dryers may be recycled with metal at no charge.

Paper shredding will also be available, although the shredding itself will be done off-site. The first two boxes of documents will be accepted for free, and additional boxes will cost $5 each, cash only.

Proceeds from the extra box fees will benefit the Danvers Food Pantry.

The weekend will also offer free recycling for metal items such as file cabinets, grills, appliances, hangers and doors, as well as rigid plastics including buckets, toys, barrels and lawn furniture.

Compost bins will be available for $25 by check payable to the Town of Danvers.

Cub Scout Pack 16 is also scheduled to collect redeemable bottles and cans on both days of the event.
