Danvers Offers Free Curbside Textile Pickup

DANVERS, MA — Danvers residents can schedule free curbside pickup of unwanted textiles through the town’s partnership with Simple Recycling.

The program accepts clothing, shoes, bedding, towels and other fabrics, including items that are not suitable for donation.

Collected textiles are graded and sorted after pickup. Wearable items can be reused, while unwearable materials are repurposed into other products, including reclaimed rags, insulation and carpet padding.

The program is aimed at keeping more fabric out of the trash stream. According to the town, only about 5% of what is collected through the program ends up in the waste stream.

Residents who want to use the service can gather their unwanted textiles and schedule a pickup directly with Simple Recycling. Pickup requests can be made by calling 866-835-5068 or by visiting simplerecycling.com.

After scheduling, residents should place their labeled bag or box at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on their collection day. The town’s guidance says the service is free for Danvers residents.

The list of accepted items includes everyday household textiles that often cannot go in standard donation bins if they are too worn. That includes clothing, shoes, bedding, towels and worn-out fabrics that can still be broken down and used in manufacturing new materials.
