Danvers State Police Number Spoofed In Phone Scam

State police said calls that appear to be coming from the Danvers barracks are a fraud scheme.

DANVERS, MA — The phone number of the Danvers State Police barracks is showing up in fraudulent phone calls by those claiming to be calling on behalf of state troopers.

Massachusetts State Police warned on Thursday that a group was "spoofing" the Danvers barracks' number to make it appear that the calls are coming from them, then seeking personal information from those who respond.

"Please be assured that no barracks or unit would call people asking for any kind of personal information," State police said.

Those who receive a call that purports to be coming from the Danvers barracks should not answer it, or should be hung up if the caller asks for personal information. Residents receiving those calls can always call the barracks back directly to see if someone from there was looking to get in touch with them.
