Danvers Teen Involved in Fatal Accident in Attleboro

State Police are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash. The driver of other vehicle was killed.

A 19-year-old Danvers driver was involved in a two-car accident in Attleboro this morning that resulted in the death of the other driver.

Massachusetts State Police and the Attleboro Fire Department reported to the scene of the fatal two-car accident that occurred just before 8:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 95 southbound in Attleboro.

One car was on fire, but Attleboro Fire put out the fire moments after arriving on scene. State Police have confirmed to Patch that one person was ejected from a vehicle and one died on scene. The Jaws of Life were used by emergency medical personnel to remove a door and pulled the injured passenger, Carolyn P. Bibbo, 34, of Woonsocket, R.I., from the vehicle.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, Claudette J. Kumor, 57, from Northborough, who was hit by a Toyota Camry, died on the scene after she was ejected from the SUV, according to State Police Sgt. Monzon. The passenger of the SUV was seriously injured and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver of the Camry was Samantha Lee Fletcher, 19, of Danvers, who reportedly rear-ended the other vehicle. She was uninjured in the crash and was picked up by her father who spoke with State Police about the accident.

Monzon said State Police Trooper Michael Isom, with assistance by the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, is handling the accident reconstruction. "Right now, they are doing the investigation on what happened," Monzon said.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Isom shows that the green 1994 Toyota Camry was being operated in the right travel lane by Fletcher. She closed distance with and crashed into the rear bumper of a blue 2004 Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle, which was ahead of her in the right travel lane.

Fletcher said she was driving about 75, but witnesses told Massachusetts State Police it was well above that. Police estimate that Fleterch was driving more like 90.
